Toastmasters Social Weekend

Had a great weekend in Kidderminster for a social weekend with The National Association of Toastmasters at the Hogarth Stone Manor Hotel. Firstly a visit to the Black Country Living Museum in Dudley then a Friday evening dinner and Saturday evening  a Cowboy and Indian wild west dinner and murder mystery night.


Annual Dinner Dance ECA

Toastmaster for the Electrical Contractors Association South Yorkshire Branch Annual Dinner Dance at the Holiday Inn Royal Victoria Hotel, Sheffield on The 19th November 2016.


Hosting the event was Chairman Bill Wright and his Lady Sandra, with top table guests The President of the ECA David Kieft and his Lady Theresa (who travelled up from Swansea) and ECA NE Regional Manager Graeme Watson and his Lady Julie.

The hotel is very decorative being from the age of Steam and built in the 1800's.





There very a few very nice raffle prizes including 42in smart TV's.


Gary the Dj and Band from Leeds "Black and White" finished off the evening.


Annual Dinner - Newcastle upon Tyne Law Society

Toastmaster for 191st Annual Dinner for the Newcstle upon Tyne Law Society on Friday 11th November at The Newcastle Civic Centre.


The evening was hosted by President Mark Harrison, aided by Kate Gooding.


The top table comprised of Katy Thorne (President of the Insurance Institute of Newcastle upon Tyne), Graeme Brough (Chairman, Charted Institute of Taxtion), Bill Meikle (Honoury Treasurer Newcastle upon Tyne Law Society), The Reverend Canon Allan Marks (St Ann's Church, Newcastle upon Tyne), Joe Egan (Vice President of The Law Society of England and Wales), Nick Stonor QC, Karen Dilks (HM Senior Coroner- City of Newcastle upon Tyne), John Elvidge QC (Leader of the Northern Circuit), District Judge Philip Jackson, Judith Mackenow (President Law Society),

Chris Noone (Junior Vice President Tees Valley Law Society).


A raffle was held to raise funds for Macmillon Nurses.


Annual Dinner - Insurance Institute of Middlesbrough

Toastmaster for the 94th Annual Dinner for the Insurance Institute of Middlesbrough on the 7th October at the Jury's Hotel in Middlesbrough.


President Pual Chudley aided by Tim Allen organised a very slick evening. Guests from many organisations attended including Steven Wilkinson (Life Vice -President Insurance Institue of York), Ian Chapman on behalf of the Deputy President of the Insurance Institute of Halifax, Clive Batchelor (President, Insurance Institute of Leeds), Katy Thorne BA (President Insurance Institute of Newcastle), Mrs Elaine McLaine-Wood, (President Tees Valley Law Society), Wendy M Hardman BA (Chairperson BIBA), and Angela Foster BA(Co-Chairperson - Teeside Society of Chartered Accountants)


Two guest speakers in addition to President Paul Chudley were Branko Bjelobaba (Chairman of the Chartered Insurance Institutes Award Panel) and Former BBC presenter and now author and speaker Alan Wright who gave an amusing account of his travels.


A long service award was presented to Tim Allen and the past Presidents Medal was presented to Graham Barr.


A raffle was held to raise money fro two charities - The Insurance Charities, and Teeside Hospice.


A total of £559 was raised with top prizes of Champange and a Amazon Fire Tablet among the prizes.


A disco followed until the early hours led by resident DJ Dave.

Earl of Doncaster Wedding Exhibition

Had a busy day at the Earl of Doncaster Hotel on Bennetthorpe Road, Doncaster on the 15th May and was reminded of my wedding day when my wife and I held our wedding breakfast in the concorde suite.


The hotel has a Art Deco theme and the photos show the lavish interiors.




Darlington Wedding Exhibition at Solberge Hall

Acted as meet and greet Toastmaster on Sunday 4th October at Solberge Hall. The day was well attended by exhibitors and potential Brides and Grooms.

Community Pharmacy Humber Awards Dinner

Happy to be the Tostmaster and master of ceremonies for the first Community Pharmacy Humber Awards dinner held at the Village Urban hotel in Hull on the 9th September 2015.


Keynote speaker was Sue Sharpe OBE who is CEO for PSNC.

Pharmacy Team of the Year went to Newlands Community Pharamcy Hull


A toast to the Queen on achieving the longest Reign in British history

Northern Guild of Toastmasters AGM Luncheon


Worked as acting Toastmaster for the AGM Luncheon of the Northern Guild of Toastmasters at the Wincham Hall Hotel in Cheshire. The new President was Peter Whitehead who was accompanied by his wife Val, and Vice President was David Ruane.


A speech by Dan Whitehead (head of Talent and Development) gave an insight into the Medical Protetction Society.


Entertainment was given by soprano Gemma Louise Doyle, and close up magician Peter Roberts


Formal Dinner


Proud to be the Toastmaster for the Annual Dinner of the Northern Society of Chartered Accountants at The Newcastle Civic Centre Banqueting Hall on Friday 17th October which was well attended by many including the Lord Mayor of Newcastle Cllr George Pattison, and the Lady Mayoress.



The Dinner was under the control of this years President Andrew Jackson, and the guests were treated to speeches by National President of the ICAEW Arthur Bailey, Award Presentation by Keith Proudfoot (Northern Director ICAEW) to Professional Student Holly Thompson (Ernst and Young) and Advanced Student Catherine Manning (Ernst and Young).


Toasts were proposed by Verity Dobbie (President, Newcastle Incorporated Law Society), and Nigel Mills (Chairman, North East Entrepreneurs Forum).


After a short charity collection the main speaker was Apprentice Favourite NICK HEWER who gave an insight into how he became involved with Alan Sugar and "The Apprentice". A question and answer session ended the talk.


To conclude the evening, President Andrew Jackson announced the amount raised for this events charity the PANCREATIC CANCER ACTION WHICH TOTALLED OVER £6,120 WELL DONE and thank you for your generosity!


Toastmaster for the Black Tie 21st Birthday Dinner for Henry Hamilton at Auckland Castle on Thursday 5th June 2014. Magician Mike Donoghue gave some close up magic and got some wow's as lemons came from nowhere!.

Had the pleasure of being Toastmaster for the 30th Anniversry of the opening of Bennfield House Nursing Home in Thorne Doncaster on the 25th April 2015.


The nursing home was first opened by Penny Bennett and her then husband David 30 years ago, when nursing homes were unhearded of, and Penny, who is Matron and Director, now has a staff of 64 dedicated workers looking after Alzheimer patients.

The main speaker of the afternoon was Angela Rippon OBE, who has the experience of caring for family with Dementia, and spoke of the care and patience needed to bring some normallity into the lives of those affected.


Angela is an ambassador for the Alzheimers Society, and has been instrumental in working with Prime Minister David Cameron in spearheading the Dementia Friendly Community Movement.


Another ambassador for the Alzheimers Society and also a suffer was honoury Doctor Trevor Jarvis BEM, who spoke of the things which people do not realise that dementia suffers have to contend with like remembering PIN numbers.


The afternoon finished off with music from Alan Turner, a contender from the 2008 X factor and actually went to Simon Cowells Home.
